Arab Finance: Haier Egypt plans to open the second phase of its industrial complex in 10th of Ramadan City in November, adding annual production capacity of more than 500,000 refrigerators and freezers, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industry.

The plan was reviewed during a meeting between Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Haier Egypt CEO Yang Linpeng to discuss the Chinese home appliance manufacturer’s existing projects and expansion plans in Egypt. 

Haier’s eco-friendly complex spans 200,000 square meters and represents total investments of $135 million. It comprises four factories producing central and residential air conditioners, washing machines, televisions and electronic displays, as well as components through metal forming, plastic injection, and painting operations.

The complex has an annual production capacity exceeding one million electrical appliances. Its first phase began operations two years ago and exports 30% of its output to various markets.

The meeting also covered the company’s production of variable refrigerant flow (VRF) central air conditioning systems with 42.6% local content to serve residential projects in new cities. Local content in Haier’s residential air conditioners stands at 65%, while the complex uses clean energy to support its operations.

Hashem welcomed Haier’s presence in Egypt and called on the company to pursue further expansion, saying investments by international manufacturers reflect their confidence in the Egyptian economy and the country’s ability to attract foreign direct investment and localize modern technology.

He added that expanding local production could help meet domestic demand while supporting exports to international markets.

The minister urged Haier to raise local content and increase the value added by its Egyptian operations. He called on the company to examine the local production of specialized components for central air conditioning systems, including chillers, as part of efforts to deepen domestic manufacturing and reduce imports.

Hashem also stressed the need to develop local suppliers and qualify them to meet Haier’s production requirements. He encouraged the company to use the services of the Industrial Modernization Center (IMC) to support that process.

For his part, Linpeng reaffirmed Haier Egypt’s commitment to maintaining its investments, expanding its production base, and relying on skilled Egyptian workers, with the aim of supporting economic development and strengthening the “Made in Egypt” brand in international markets.
