Arab Finance: ABB Egypt has begun transforming its factories into eco-friendly industrial facilities powered by clean energy, according to an emailed press release.
This comes as part of a strategic partnership with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), which aims to cut carbon emissions and promote the adoption of renewable energy and energy-efficiency solutions across industrial facilities.
These efforts align with the Industry's Sun Initiative, supporting the state's vision to build a resilient, sustainable, and globally competitive local industrial sector.
As the first milestone of the partnership, ABB is implementing an integrated rooftop solar energy project across several factories within its industrial complex, making it one of the largest distributed solar projects in Egypt’s industrial sector.
The project has a total installed capacity of 3.3 megawatts (MW) and is expected to generate approximately 5.05 GWh of clean electricity annually, reducing around 2,846 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. This is equivalent to avoiding the consumption of more than 1.22 million liters of fuel annually.
Meanwhile, the solar project is set to be linked to the national electricity grid in 2027 and is designed to operate for 30 years.

Abdullah Kassem, Board Member and Electrification Commercial Lead at ABB in Egypt, said: "This achievement reflects our genuine commitment to reducing our carbon footprint by transitioning 70% of our operational energy consumption to solar power by 2027. It also supports ABB's global target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 80% by 2030 and 100% by 2050."

Having launched its business in Egypt in 1926, ABB celebrated 100 years of success last May, with an annual turnover of approximately EGP 14 billion.
In May, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly approved the Industry Sun initiative, which targets generating 1,000 MW of solar energy through the utilization of factory rooftops.
