Arab Finance: Egypt and India are exploring expanded industrial cooperation and new Indian investments in the Egyptian market, with a focus on private-sector partnerships, technology transfer, and export-oriented manufacturing, as per a statement.
Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem discussed the plans during a meeting with India’s Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy and representatives of India-based steel manufacturer Shyam Steel Group.
The talks covered efforts to attract more Indian companies to Egypt and draw on their industrial expertise and modern technologies to strengthen the capabilities of the local workforce and advance industrial integration between the two countries.
Hashem said the ministry is seeking partnerships between Egyptian and Indian private-sector companies that can serve domestic demand while supporting exports to European, African, and Arab markets.
He pointed to Egypt’s strategic location and trade agreements as advantages for Indian manufacturers seeking access to those markets.
The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of Hashem’s participation in the BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting in Jaipur, India, where he held discussions with Indian government officials and companies.
The two sides addressed preparations for a planned visit by India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry to Cairo in November. The visit is expected to include participation in an Egyptian-Indian business forum and a tour of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).
Alongside investment and trade, Egypt is looking to benefit from India’s experience in industrial policymaking, particularly legislative reforms designed to reduce bureaucracy and ease procedural requirements for manufacturers.
Hashem said the Ministry of Industry is working to simplify industrial procedures and improve the process for small-scale investors seeking to establish manufacturing projects.
Reddy reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Egypt, citing the longstanding ties between the two countries. He said Indian companies view Egypt as an attractive investment destination and a regional center for manufacturing, exports, and investment, supported by its geographic location and the cultural affinity between both countries.
