In April, Egypt experienced a significant surge in food prices, with an overall year-on-year increase of 37.6%, as per data from CAPMAS.
This hike impacted various essential commodities, with non-subsidized sugar leading the list at an alarming 116.5% jump, followed by a 72.6% increase in onion and potatoes by 68.4%.
Other staples such as coffee, soft drinks, lentils, fresh meat, milk, eggs, and edible oil also witnessed substantial price hikes, ranging from 48% to 63.3%.
Egypt's annual headline inflation slightly declined to 31.8% in April, versus 33.1% in March.
