Egypt not to distribute additional unsubsidized sugar on ration cards staring September

Arab Finance: Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has decided to halt the distribution of additional sugar amounts on ration cards of as of September 2024, Asharq Business reported, citing Minister of Supply Sherif Farouk.

This includes the unsubsidized sugar sold for EGP 27 per kilogram along with the subsidized amounts provided to ration card holders, Farouk added.

The reason for this decision is that ration card holders did not benefit from the increase, the minister noted, adding that the amount of subsidized sugar on ration cards will remain as is.

Farouk pointed out the country’s strategic reserve of subsidized sugar is sufficient for 13 months.
