ArabFinance: All Egyptian banks will be off on Thursday, January 26, to commemorate the January 25 Revolution and National Police Day, Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on January 22nd, citing an announcement by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).
Banks will reopen on Sunday, January 29th, the CBE said.
Egyptian Manpower Minister Hassan Shehata announced on January 20th that next Thursday would be a paid holiday for private-sector workers to commemorate the January 25 Revolution and National Police Day.
Shehata said that business owners can oblige employees to work during the holiday, but must be paid double time.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly previously made the same announcement for Egypt's public sector workers and employees at state institutions.
Both occasions fall on January 25th - which is Wednesday - but the government said in 2020 it would move all mid-week vacation days, with the exception of Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha, and Coptic Christmas, to the end of the week, to give workers the chance to take a long weekend.
