Arab Finance: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib has attended the opening of the 9th Food Africa, Fresh Africa, and PacProcess exhibitions, held from December 3rd to 5th at the Egypt International Exhibition Center, according to a statement.
The event features 1,018 companies from 39 countries, including Germany, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, India, Poland, and Russia, with Turkiya participating as the guest of honor.
The exhibitions showcase food industries and agricultural products such as dates, packaging, and food manufacturing machinery.
They are held under the auspices of the Ministries of Investment and Foreign Trade, Industry, and Supply.
During the event, El-Khatib noted that Egypt’s food industry exports reached $4.6 billion by the end of September 2024, an 18% increase from $3.9 billion in the same period in 2023. This marks the highest export value and growth rate in the sector's history.
He added that Arab countries are the top importers of Egyptian food products, followed by the European Union (EU), non-Arab African countries, and the US.
The minister also emphasized the need to increase agricultural exports to African markets, which currently represent just 2% of Egypt's total agricultural exports.
In the 2023/2024 season, the country’s agricultural exports to Africa reached 125,000 tons, valued at $80 million, he stated, affirming that enhancing trade with Africa is a strategic priority for Egypt.
Overall, Egypt’s agricultural exports saw significant growth, reaching 7.1 million tons worth $4.1 billion during the first 10 months of 2024, signaling an increase of over $1 billion from the previous year, the minister said.
Citrus exports lead the sector, with Egypt ranking as the world’s top orange exporter at 2.3 million tons, El-Khatib pointed out.
