Arab Finance: Abu Qir Fertilizers has signed three major agreements to enhance sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, and improve energy efficiency, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
The first agreement was signed between Abed Ezz El-Regal, Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Qir Fertilizers, and Bjorn Q. Aaserod, Executive Chairman of the US-based Monitor Power Systems (MPS) for the supply of green hydrogen.
MPS will carry out this project in the Abu Qir industrial zone. The project will reduce natural gas consumption, cut carbon emissions, and increase production capacity at the Abu Qir Ammonia Plant 1.
It will also help the company meet the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) emission standards.
The second agreement was signed between Ahmed Sherbini, Vice President Local Division Manager at ABB Egypt, and Aaserod of MPS.
As for the third agreement, it was signed between Sherbini and Ezz El-Regal to install an advanced automation system at the Abu Qir Ammonia Plant 1.
The system aims to reduce natural gas use in steam boilers by 2% to 4% in the first phase, improve operational efficiency, and optimize energy resources, with plans to expand the system to Abu Qir Plants 2 and 3 in the future.
Commenting on the projects, Ezz El-Regal expressed that they would strengthen the company’s leadership in nitrogen fertilizer production.
