In the fiscal year 2023/2024, Egypt's government spending reached EGP 2.99 trillion, reflecting ongoing investment in various sectors to foster economic development and social welfare. However, in the upcoming fiscal year 2024/25, total government spending is projected to increase significantly to EGP 3.87 trillion, indicating a continued commitment to strategic development initiatives.
A substantial portion of the budget, totaling EGP 1.12 trillion, is allocated towards debt servicing, reflecting the government's efforts to manage financial obligations responsibly, set to be increased to EGP 1.83 trillion during the next FY.
Meanwhile, subsidies account for EGP 530 billion in FY 2023/24 and EGP 640 billion in the next one.
Wages remain a significant component of government spending, with EGP 470 billion allocated to this category in FY 2023/24 and climbing to EGP 580 billion during the upcoming FY 2024/25, ensuring the continued support and stability of the public workforce. Investments will receive EGP 587 billion in FY 2023/24 and EGP 500 billion in FY 2024/25.
Lastly, EGP 145 billion is allocated to other expenditures in FY2023/24 and EGP 160 billion in FY2024/25.
Egypt raised its funding needs for the draft budget of FY 2024/25 by 33% to EGP 2.849 trillion.
