ArabFinance: Revenues of Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) hit EGP 72.8 billion since the start of the system in 2018 until the end of December 2022, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said in a statement on January 14th.
The UHIA also achieved financial surpluses of more than EGP 67 billion in the same period, Maait added.
According to the statement, the UHIA contracted with 162 healthcare providers with more than 3,000 various health services for the beneficiaries of the insurance system.
The UHIA was first launched in the summer of 2018 in Port Said, with the aim of eliminating the waiting lists for patients in need of urgent surgery and critical medical interventions.
In 2021, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi mandated a condensed ten-year deadline, instead of 15 years, for completing the UHIS to cover all governorates.
