2 fertilizer producers request government to reassess subsidized fertilizer prices

Arab Finance: Two major Egyptian nitrogen fertilizer producers have submitted requests to the government to review the subsidized fertilizer supply prices, given the high production costs following the liberalization of the local currency’s exchange rate, three government sources told Asharq Business.

Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemicals Industries Company and Helwan Fertilizers Company said in a note that the price of fuel needed to produce one ton of fertilizers exceeded EGP 6,500, compared to 4,500 before currency liberalization, one source said.

Another source pointed out that, after calculating the operation and transport costs, the price of subsidized fertilizers amounts to EGP 9,000 per ton.
