NTRA issues regulations governing promotional, commercial calls

Arab Finance: The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has issued regulations governing the use of mobile lines to conduct promotional and commercial calls, as per a statement.

These resolutions aim at protecting the privacy of telecom users and prevent spam calls.

Under these regulations, individuals who wish to make promotional and commercial calls must officially register their data in the database of local mobile operators and activate the service of promotional calls.

Once the spam calls service is activated, users will either receive promotional calls with the name and number of the promotional entity revealed or receive a pre-alert (NTRA Alert) indicating that the incoming call is promotional; they will then have the choice to answer or ignore these calls.

If citizens have received anonymous promotional calls or without pre-alert, the number of callers will be reported.

Moreover, the calling entity will be subject to all legal and regulatory measures for not registering its data in the mobile operator database and for breaching the regulations governing this matter.
