El-Molla inaugurates development projects at Al-Hamra petroleum port

Arab Finance: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla has inaugurated development and expansion projects at Al-Hamra petroleum port in New Alamein city, as per a statement on August 13th.

The projects are being carried out by the Western Desert Petroleum Company (WEPCO) as the port’s operator.

During his visit to the port, El-Molla laid the foundation stone of a petroleum products storage and shipment area with a capacity of around 400,000 tons to ease the traffic pressure on the coastal road transportation of petroleum products.

The minister also reviewed the ongoing projects aiming at scaling up the storage capacity of the Al-Hamra port by extending the northern area of the port to improve the circulation and reception of crude oil.

The minister also inaugurated a 500-kilowatt (KW) solar power plant at the port to diversify power resources and reduce reliance on power generated from the national grid by 1,000 megawatts per hour (MWh) per year. The plant was implemented by Gas Cool Company with total investments of EGP 11 million.

Moreover, El-Molla has approved starting the operations of a new crude oil warehouse at the port with a capacity of 630,000 barrels to bring up the port's existing storage capacity to 2.8 million barrels.

He also inaugurated a new project to revamp security and safety systems at the port.
