Egypt’s TSFE, IFC, EBRD pen agreement to boost privatization in seawater desalination

Arab Finance: The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed a partnership agreement on enhancing participation of the private sector in Egypt’s seawater desalination program, Planning Ministry announced on March 22nd.

The agreement aims at pushing the water desalination program in Egypt forward, and it will also contribute to strengthening the government’s efforts to ensure access to safe, clean, and sufficient water, Planning Minister Hala Elsaid highlighted.

Elsaid added that the government is working to develop its water desalination program in partnership with many private entities, and plans to build about 21 desalination plants to produce 3.3 million cubic meters per day in its first phase and 8.8 million cubic meters by 2050.
