Arab Finance: The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) has injected EGP 79.6 billion in financing into more than 4 million diverse projects since its establishment in 1991, creating 6.8 million jobs, CEO Basel Rahmy said.
The agency celebrated its 35th anniversary, coinciding with the UN's World MSME Day, following its launch in Egypt under the name Social Fund for Development (SFD).
MSMEDA has allocated EGP 7.1 billion to support infrastructure, community development, and training projects aimed at creating an attractive environment for business growth in cooperation with governorates and relevant government entities.
Rahmy emphasized that the agency’s financial support has jumped since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi ruled the country. Between 2014 and April 2026, MSMEDA provided nearly EGP 62.4 billion in financing, accounting for more than 82% of the total funding disbursed since its inception.
The CEO affirmed that the agency is committed to extending its services to all governorates, from Upper Egypt to Lower Egypt, the border governorates, and Sinai. These services include all economic activities, such as industry, agriculture, livestock production, services, and trade. He also elaborated that the agency's beneficiaries were quite equal, with 51% male and 49% female entrepreneurs.
Besides financing, MSMEDA has trained tens of thousands of young people in entrepreneurship and marketing while facilitating the participation of businesses in around 2,346 international, national, and local exhibitions to help them expand and grow.
The agency recently signed a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) to expand the base of companies benefiting from financing instruments and markets, as part of efforts to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises' (MSMEs) growth.
