Egypt earmarks EGP 44B for local wheat procurement from farmers

Arab Finance: Egypt has allocated nearly EGP 44 billion so far to finance the purchase of local wheat from farmers, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait stated.

This comes within the framework of the country’s commitment to supporting farmers and alleviating burdens on them, with the aim of boosting agricultural production and investment, the minister noted.

It is worthy to note that the government dedicated EGP 40.5 billion under the FY 2024/2025 budget to support production and export activities, he added.

The new budget backs the government’s goals of achieving agricultural development, targeting scaling up the agricultural sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP), Maait said.
