Arab Finance: Egypt is set to receive 430,000 tons of Russian wheat by early November, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk told Asharq Business.
The shipment aligns with Egypt's ongoing efforts to secure wheat supplies at competitive prices amid global market pressures.
Russia, which supplied 72% of Egypt’s total wheat imports from January to September, remains Egypt's largest supplier, with over 8 million tons delivered during this period.
Other key wheat sources included Ukraine with 1.5 million tons, Romania with 837,000 tons, Bulgaria with 296,000 tons, and France with 179,000 tons.
Farouk added that Egypt is open to purchasing wheat through both tenders and direct orders, exploring opportunities from major wheat exporters, including Russia, Ukraine, and France, as well as from local producers.
He also noted that the government is considering mixing corn with wheat in baking bread to cut the cost of subsidized bread in the local market.
