GAFI hosts Sudanese Businessmen Forum

Arab Finance: The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) has hosted the Sudanese Businessmen Forum, according to an official statement on January 26th.

The forum was attended by Hossam Heiba, CEO of GAFI, Imad El-Din Mustafa Adawi, the Sudanese Ambassador to Cairo, and Yahya Elwathik Bellah, Minister Plenipotentiary, First Undersecretary- Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The meeting discussed ways to deepen cooperation between the Egyptian government, the Sudanese Embassy, and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Sudan.

Moreover, the officials reviewed the requirements of Sudanese companies planning to develop projects in Egypt.

Heiba called on the Sudanese business community to leverage the infrastructure boom in Egypt and pump investments into the free zones in southern the state, especially in Qift, Qena.

The authority’s CEO also outlined programs aimed at supporting young Sudanese businessmen in coordination with both Egyptian and Sudanese entities concerned with the investment file.

On his part, Elwathik Bellah said that Sudanese investments in Egypt stand at $240 million, while Egyptian investments in Sudan amount to $1 billion.

In 2023, the value of bilateral trade between the two African countries hit nearly $1.4 billion, he added.

He highlighted that Egypt developed its ports per the latest international standards, reduced logistics costs, and penned several trade agreements to back small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
