Arab Finance: The Egyptian Electricity Transmission (EETC) needs $2.2 billion to integrate 10 gigawatts (GWs) of renewable energy into the country’s national grid, three government official told Asharq Business.

This plan will be implemented via the rehabilitation of transformer substations, power lines, cables, and power compensation devices, one source said.

The targeted expansion works include adding 1,690 kilometers of 500-kilovolt (KV) lines, establishing 11 500-KV transformer substations, and providing 16 power compensation devices, another source noted.

This is in addition to rehabilitating 122 kilometers of 220-KV power lines and 54 kilometers of 500-KV power lines as well as providing a 220/5000KV transformer.

One official said that the company will depend on its resources when executing the works, in addition to financing from Egyptian banks to finance the local components and others from international institutions and banks to finance the USD component.
