Arab Finance: The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) has prequalified 17 consortia to bid for the development of several seawater desalination projects that will be offered to the private sector, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development stated on May 1st.
Powered by renewable energy, the projects will be implemented in a number of areas across Egypt as part of the first phase of the country’s water desalination program, the statement added.
The qualified consortia were classified into four categories according to their expertise in various local and international water desalination projects.
Egypt’s water desalination program aims to execute several projects with a total capacity of 3.35 million cubic meters per day by 2025 under its first phase to reach 8.85 million cubic meters per day by 2050.
The program also targets luring foreign and local strategic investors to develop, build, and operate desalination plants by using renewable energy sources as well as transferring technology and localizing the manufacturing of water desalination components
