Egyptian male expats can now settle military service obligations for $5,000

Arab Finance: The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a decree allowing Egyptian living abroad to settle their mandatory military service status by paying $5,000 or €5,000, according to a statement on July 27th.

Numerous appeals from Egyptian nationals living overseas, who are hesitant to return to Egypt due to their commitments to the country's mandatory military service, were the impetus for this action.

To settle obligations, applicants must register on a yet-to-announced website and deposit the required fees into Banque Misr accounts.

Registration will be open for 30 days as of August 14th.

Egyptian expats would also be unable to renew their passports until their military service status is resolved, the statement added.
