CBE offers EGP 150B T-Notes for 1st time

Arab Finance: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has offered EGP 150 billion in treasury notes (T-Notes) for the first time on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, introducing a 63-day government debt instrument with a variable return, according to data published on the CBE’s official auction website.

The T-Notes took effect on July 16th, 2026, and will mature on September 17th.

Their return is linked to the CBE’s main operation rate, which represents the midpoint of its interest rate corridor, plus a fixed margin of 0.30 percentage points.

T-Notes are government debt instruments through which investors lend money to the government for a specified period in return for interest. Unlike conventional Treasury bills and bonds, the new notes carry a variable return that moves in line with monetary policy changes, giving the Ministry of Finance greater flexibility in managing its financing costs.

The offering attracted two bids totaling EGP 150 billion. The CBE accepted both bids in full, resulting in a 100% allocation rate and covering the entire targeted amount.
