Arab Finance: The Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank) collaborated with IBM to develop a bank-wide data governance and integration foundation using IBM Cloud Pak for Data and IBM watsonx, according to an emailed press release.
Through IBM Business Partner MegaSoft, the service enables EBank to connect, govern, and manage data across its operations while retaining control within its secure environment.
In line with its digital objectives, EBank’s data landscape has grown across core banking, cards, customer relationship management (CRM), and other systems.
IBM watsonx.data backs data integration and pipelines, while the platform integrates capabilities for data governance, quality management, cataloging, privacy validation, and end-to-end data lineage.
The on-premises deployment supports EBank’s digital sovereignty objectives by keeping data and processing within the bank’s own secure environment, enabling greater control over its data and operations while helping it address its security, regulatory, and data-residency requirements, alongside existing data protection and masking controls.
Ahmed Mohamed Galal, CEO and Managing Director at Ebank, commented: “Through our collaboration with IBM, we are strengthening the foundation that allows us to connect and better understand our data across the bank, supporting more informed decisions and deeper customer insights.”
Tamer El Kholy, General Manager at IBM North East Africa, said: “Through IBM Cloud Pak for Data and IBM watsonx, EBank is bringing together data integration, governance, quality, privacy and lineage capabilities to establish the secure and governed foundation needed to advance its analytics roadmap and prepare for AI adoption, while maintaining control of its data within its own environment.”
In the first half (H1) of 2026, the lender’s net profits attributable to the shareholders climbed by 47.28% to EGP 3.894 billion from EGP 2.643 billion in H1 2025.
