EBRD forecasts Egypt’s economic growth at 4.6% in 2026

Arab Finance: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) expects Egypt’s economy to grow by 4.6% in 2026 and 5% in 2027, according to its latest Regional Economic Prospects report.

The forecast follows resilient activity in communications, trade, and petroleum refining. Remittances and tourism receipts also rose strongly in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026, helping support Egypt’s external balances despite regional uncertainty.

Egypt completed the seventh review of its International Monetary Fund (IMF)-supported program in July 2026, and international reserves reached record levels. Even so, the EBRD estimates the government’s gross financing needs at around 50% of gross domestic product (GDP) in fiscal year (FY) 2027.

The bank expects growth to strengthen that year, but says instability in the Middle East could affect energy markets and foreign investor sentiment.

Previously, in its June 2026 report, EBRD set its forecasts for Egypt's economic growth at 4.9% in both 2026 and 2027, down from 5.1% in 2025.
