Egypt allows sugar surplus exports through end-2026

Arab Finance: Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade has allowed the export of all types of sugar through the end of 2026, limited to quantities exceeding domestic market requirements.

Under Ministerial Decree No. 325 of 2026, issued in the Egyptian Gazette, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade will determine the quantities available for export. Each shipment will also require the approval of Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid.

The measure is intended to enable producers to export surplus quantities while ensuring that domestic demand continues to be met.

The new decree follows Ministerial Decree No. 189 of 2026, which extended the restrictions on sugar exports for three additional months while retaining an exception for quantities exceeding local market needs.

Issued on April 30 and published in the Egyptian Gazette on May 4, the earlier decree formed part of measures to secure domestic supplies and maintain strategic reserves of essential commodities.
