Egypt, DP World discuss expanding Egypt's export access to African markets

Arab Finance: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid held talks with a delegation from DP World to explore leveraging the logistics group's commercial capabilities to expand Egypt's access to international markets, particularly African markets, as per a statement.

During the meeting, Farid said the ministry seeks to forge stronger partnerships between Egyptian exporters and major international companies operating in transportation, logistics, and supply chain management. This policy aims to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products and back the country's export growth strategy.

The ministry is working to implement a comprehensive program to develop the investment and foreign trade ecosystem by streamlining procedures, improving logistics services, and strengthening coordination among relevant government entities. The initiative aims to increase exports while expanding the private sector's contribution to economic growth, Farid added.

Additionally, the minister stressed the importance of establishing direct cooperation between Egypt's export councils and DP World to identify the specific needs of key export sectors and maximize the use of the company's transportation, warehousing, distribution, and supply chain services.

This discussion comes within the ministry’s framework to amplify the reach of priority Egyptian export products, particularly food industries, agricultural products, chemicals, building materials, ready-made garments, and engineering industries, to African markets with greater efficiency and lower costs.

For his part, Mohammad Shihab, Executive Vice President (EVP) of Egypt and Levant, said the group operates in over 85 countries and manages an integrated network of ports, logistics zones, distribution centers, and supply chains. It handles around 10% of global trade, while nearly 23% of Egypt's foreign trade passes through the port of Sokhna, managed by the group.

Shihab indicated that the group is implementing strategic investments in Egypt, most notably the development of the port of Sokhna and the establishment of the Sokhna Logistics Park, which will strengthen Egypt's position as a regional hub for trade, re-export, and logistics services.

The group’s officials also outlined its logistics capabilities across African markets, which include ports, distribution centers, specialized warehouses, and transport networks. They affirmed its readiness to support Egyptian exporters in key sectors, including food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, fertilizers, building materials, and textile industries through integrated transportation, storage, distribution, and cargo collection services.
