Egypt’s annual headline inflation up to 12.8% in September 2026: CAPMAS

Arab Finance: Egypt's annual headline inflation rate went up to 12.8% in September 2026 from 12.7% last August, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The general consumer price index (CPI) for September reached 294.2 points, marking a rise of 1.5% from August 2026.

Food and beverages (F&B) prices increased by 7.9% year-on-year (YoY) last month, and prices in the alcoholic beverages and tobacco segment rose by 6.9%.

The clothing and footwear section saw a 12.7% YoY jump in prices, whereas prices under the housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel segment hiked by 29.6% YoY.

Healthcare prices rose 5.2% in September 2026. Likewise, prices in the transport and communications sector climbed by 21.3%.

The telecommunications division recorded a 10.4% annual rise in prices, while the education sector witnessed a 20% YoY growth in prices.
