Egypt signs cooperation protocol to boost investment in petroleum, mining sectors

Arab Finance: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to attract new capital to Egypt’s oil, gas, and mining sectors.

The protocol aims to enhance coordination between the two ministries in promoting investment opportunities, drawing investments from financial institutions, investment funds, and private-sector partners, and exploring innovative financing mechanisms, including the use of capital market instruments.

Madbouly highlighted the importance of the agreement in supporting the state’s objectives to maximize the value and returns of its assets, improve the economic structures of petroleum-sector companies, and boost their operational efficiency, growth prospects, and competitiveness.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said the agreement builds on ongoing efforts to secure financing for sector projects, accelerate expansion plans, and maximize the economic returns generated by the sector’s assets and capabilities.

He added that the cooperation would help promote investment opportunities across oil, gas, and mining, broaden funding and investment options, and develop new partnership models with the private sector.

Meanwhile, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid stressed the importance of diversifying financing mechanisms and making greater use of capital market instruments to support productive activities, business expansion, and development. He noted that this approach would reinforce integration between investment, finance, and production while expanding the private sector’s contribution to economic growth.

Under the protocol, the two ministries will leverage their investment, financing, and promotional capabilities, alongside those of their affiliated entities, to enhance the appeal of available investment opportunities and broaden the investor base interested in Egypt’s oil, gas, and mining sectors.
