Arab Finance: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with AngloGold Ashanti CEO Alberto Calderon on the sidelines of the Egypt Mining Forum 2026 to discuss expanding the company’s investments and exploration activities in Egypt.

El-Sisi affirmed the state’s support for AngloGold Ashanti, operator of the Sukari Gold Mine, and urged expanding cooperation beyond Sukari to include exploration, technology and expertise transfer, workforce training, and local supply chains development.

For his part, Calderon praised the continuous support provided by the Egyptian government to the company, as well as the efforts made by relevant authorities to overcome any challenges facing its operations in the country.

He unveiled the company’s plans to inject further investments in the coming period into several promising sites within Egypt’s mining sector, boosting opportunities to discover and develop new projects similar to the Sukari mine.

The meeting also reviewed the company’s operations and expansion plans in Egypt, as well as ways to facilitate its activities and strengthen cooperation in the mining sector.

Held under the theme “Unlocking Egypt and the Arabian-Nubian Shield’s Exploration Potential,” the forum takes place during September 28–29. It will gather major Egyptian, Arab, and international mining companies and investors, alongside mining ministers and officials from Arab and African countries, to explore investment opportunities and strengthen partnerships in the sector.
