Eni launches start-up activities at Egypt’s Meleiha Phase 2 gas project

Arab Finance: Eni has begun start-up activities at its Meleiha Phase 2 (MP2) project in Egypt’s Western Desert through its joint venture with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Agiba Petroleum Company, as per a press release.

The new facility is designed to process up to 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, forming a significant part of the development of a new gas hub within the Merged Meleiha concession. It will expand gas processing capacity for production from surrounding fields to boost domestic gas output and valorize Egypt's energy resources.

Alongside the processing facility, MP2 includes development wells, gathering systems, trunklines, and a dedicated gas export pipeline. This integrated infrastructure will connect new production to Egypt’s existing gas network, allowing rapid monetization of resources while improving operational efficiency.

This start-up launch supports Eni's commitment to Egypt’s energy security by bringing more of the Western Desert’s resources into production.

Developed in line with high operational, safety, and environmental sustainability standards, the project will help increase natural gas availability for the domestic market.

Active in Egypt since 1954, Eni is Egypt’s leading energy producer, with reported equity hydrocarbon production of approximately 242,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025.

Its subsidiaries and joint ventures span the energy value chain, with exploration, development, and production operations across the Western Desert, Gulf of Suez, Nile Delta, and Eastern Mediterranean.
