Arab Finance: The Industrial Development Authority (IDA) has offered eight new licenses for the production of iron and steel products, specifically continuous casting billets, with a combined annual production capacity of 2.8 million tons.
This comes under Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem’s directives to deepen local manufacturing and strengthen value chains across Egypt’s iron and steel industry.
Nahed Youssef, Head of the IDA, said the initiative seeks to expand local billet production to meet the basic needs of local steel rolling mills, cut dependence on imports, secure foreign currency, and enhance the investment competitiveness of Egypt’s iron and steel sector.
Under the offering, four licenses will each have an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons, while the remaining four licenses will each have a capacity of 200,000 tons, bringing the total annual capacity to 2.8 million tons.
The IDA’s head called on companies interested in participating in the tender to purchase the terms and specifications booklet from the authority’s headquarters in New Cairo between August 11 and 20, 2026.
The deadline for submitting bids is September 9 at 12:00 PM. The IDA noted that applications previously submitted regarding these licenses before the launch of the tender will not be considered.
