Arab Finance: Khalda Petroleum has brought a new natural gas discovery in Egypt's Western Desert into production, with the well initially producing 40 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMcf/d), according to a statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
The discovery was made through the drilling of the deep exploratory Watda well to a depth of 15,000 feet. Khalda Petroleum is a joint venture between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and APA Corporation.
According to the ministry, electrical logging confirmed the presence of gas-bearing formations. At the same time, final production tests carried out immediately after drilling recorded an initial production rate of 40 MMcf/d, highlighting the well's production potential.
Alongside drilling and testing activities, the company completed a new 10-kilometer production pipeline at $2.3 million. The pipeline enabled the well to be quickly connected to existing infrastructure as part of efforts to accelerate development of new discoveries.
The ministry said gas production from the well began on Tuesday, July 22, with the connection to Egypt's national gas grid expected to be completed before the end of July.
