Arab Finance: Egypt-based electric vehicle (EV) charging brand Electra is considering manufacturing chargers locally next year and aims to establish 50 charging stations annually over the next five years, General Manager Sameh ElBanhawi told Hapi Journal.
Operated by Raya Smart Buildings, a subsidiary of Raya Holding for Financial Investments, Electra would draw on the group’s industrial and technological capabilities for local production, ElBanhawi said, adding that the targeted manufacturing capacity remains under study.
The production proposal comes alongside plans to expand a network that reached approximately 40 charging stations in its first year of operation. These comprise around 100 charging points across 35 locations, including the North Coast, Alexandria, and several Cairo districts.
Electra recently installed six fast-charging stations along the Cairo-Aswan route, ElBanhawi said. The stations are intended to serve customers traveling long distances and facilitate EV use in Upper Egypt governorates, where charging infrastructure remains limited.
To supply its network, Electra has secured exclusive agency rights in Egypt for charging equipment from China-based energy technology company Sungrow through a strategic partnership, he added.
According to ElBanhawi, the technology enables fast chargers to operate with minimal power consumption, supporting expansion into areas facing electricity supply constraints.
