Arab Finance: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom met with a World Bank delegation to discuss expanding cooperation on economic reform and sustainable development, according to a statement.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2026) in the US during a meeting with Pablo Saavedra, the World Bank's Vice President for the Prosperity Vertical.
Rostom commended the strategic partnership with the World Bank Group, which supported the government's economic reform policy to achieve the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030.
The minister highlighted the importance of the World Bank's analytical studies, surveys, and diagnostic reports, as they provide valuable insights into development challenges across various sectors and help policymakers make evidence-based decisions.
The economy has demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability amid successive regional and global crises, achieving a consistent growth rate of 5.1% during the first nine months of the fiscal year (FY) 2025/2026.
He asserted the government's commitment to continuing its reform path, shifting from a phase of economic stabilization toward one centered on sustainable growth, higher productivity, and improved living standards.
Rostom outlined the priorities of Egypt's FY 2026/2027 Economic and Social Development Plan and the FY 2026/2027–FY2029/2030 medium-term development plan, both recently approved by the House of Representatives.
The meeting also reviewed the latest developments in preparing innovative financing solutions for infrastructure in Egypt, which were previously discussed in meetings between the minister and World Bank officials.
The HLPF is being held in New York this week under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The forum centers on the theme: "Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its SDGs for a sustainable future for all."
