Egypt, Ukraine probe expanding agricultural, food security cooperation

Arab Finance: Egypt and Ukraine are mulling over ways of strengthening cooperation in agriculture and food security, particularly in wheat imports and investment opportunities, as per a statement on February 2nd

This was discussed in a meeting between Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, and Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval.

Farouk emphasized the importance of increasing trade exchange and cooperation to enhance food security.

He noted President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s focus on the agricultural sector as a key pillar of food security and economic development.

Moreover, he outlined potential areas of collaboration, including livestock, high-yield breed improvements, and knowledge exchange.

The minister stressed Egypt’s commitment to maximizing water efficiency and addressing climate change while increasing agricultural exports and supporting local and foreign investors, welcoming direct meetings between Egyptian and Ukrainian business delegations to explore investment opportunities.

Farouk reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening food security, considering Ukraine a strategic partner in wheat imports. He noted ongoing efforts by the Ministries of Supply and Agriculture, along with the Future of Egypt Authority, to enhance supply chain sustainability, storage capacity, and logistics infrastructure.

He highlighted Egypt’s interest in diversifying import sources and forming new investment partnerships with Ukraine, particularly in food storage and manufacturing, to optimize economic benefits for both nations.

Meanwhile, Koval affirmed Ukraine’s readiness to expand cooperation in food security, including increased trade and collaboration in grains, meat, and poultry.

The Ukrainian minister also noted that Ukrainian investors are keen to work with Egyptian companies to strengthen bilateral trade.
