Germany’s Power-to-X (PtX) Development Fund has inked a grant agreement worth €30 million with SCATEC for a green hydrogen project in Egypt.

The General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to issue a ship refueling license for Scatec ASA at an investment cost of $1.1 billion.

The Egyptian cabinet has endorsed the signing of a cooperation protocol between Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and Norwegian Scatec to establish a solar power plant with a capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW).

The project will also cover the establishment of 40-megawatt (MW) solar power plants, 120-MW wind farms, a 60-MW hydrogen electrolyzer, a water desalination plant, and green methanol production and storage plants. Moreover, it will include the first refueling station in Egypt for vessels running on green biofuel.
