Parliament approves $26.9M USAID grant to promote inclusive economic governance

Arab Finance: Egyptian House of Representatives has approved the second amendment regarding the comprehensive economic governance grant agreement between the country and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) at a value of $26.9 million, Ministry of International Cooperation stated on March 21st.

This amendment brings total grants directed to the comprehensive economic governance program to about $77.5 million, the ministry stated.

International Cooperation Minister Rania Al Mashat said that the aim of the grant is to enhance the activities of comprehensive economic governance and promote women's participation in the workforce.

In 2021, seven grant agreements worth $160 million were signed within the framework of joint economic relations between Egypt and USAID.

It is worth noting that the ongoing development cooperation portfolio between Egypt and the US amounts to about $1 billion since 2014, under which projects are being developed and financed in several sectors, including tourism, agriculture, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and education.
