Badawi calls on Energean to boost Mediterranean gas production

Arab Finance: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met with Mathios Rigas, CEO of Energean, to discuss increasing investments in natural gas exploration and production in the Mediterranean Sea, according to a statement.

On the sidelines of EGYPES 2026, Badawi reviewed plans to enhance new exploration activities aimed at maximizing the utilization of promising gas reserves in the deep layers of the concession areas.

The minister welcomed merging the company's offshore concessions in North Abu Qir, North El Amriya, and North Idku, affirming that this move will maximize operational efficiency in these gas-producing fields.

Badawi expressed interest in collaborating with Energean in green technology, leveraging the company’s experience in carbon storage projects in Greece.

He asserted that the Egyptian petroleum sector is open to transferring this experience and applying it in line with the government’s efforts to reduce emissions and move towards more sustainable energy.
