Arab Finance: Egypt and the UAE explored opportunities to expand cooperation and investment in renewable energy, battery storage, and electricity infrastructure, as per a statement.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat held talks with Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, the UAE’s ambassador to Egypt, at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital. The two sides reviewed potential partnerships across the electricity and renewable energy sectors.
Esmat highlighted the role of Emirati companies working with the ministry and its affiliated entities, particularly in renewable energy and efforts to diversify Egypt’s energy mix.
Existing partnerships fall within Egypt’s National Energy Strategy, which seeks to advance the energy transition, increase reliance on renewable sources, and expand battery energy storage systems.
The government has also introduced measures to encourage private-sector participation in solar and wind power plants, storage facilities, and projects to reinforce and modernize the national electricity grid. These upgrades are intended to increase the grid’s capacity to absorb additional generation.
Esmat said Emirati companies are partners in several electricity-sector projects, particularly in renewable energy. He added that private investment is central to implementing the sector’s strategy, with companies leading the development of solar and wind projects.
Al Zaabi highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Egypt and the UAE, along with their shared interests. He said relations between the two countries are reflected in partnerships across several fields, including trade and investment.
