Arab Finance: Egypt has launched an electronic biometric verification system that will allow users to access telecommunications services requiring identity verification and electronic signatures through mobile applications without visiting company branches, as per a statement.

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) developed the system in cooperation with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), Cairo-based digital solutions company CyShield, and licensed electronic signature companies.

The system is being introduced in a pilot phase, with licensed mobile operators set to make it available gradually through their applications, based on their technical readiness. Its scope will subsequently expand to cover a broader range of digital services and transactions.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, provided the regulatory frameworks, infrastructure, and integration platform required to enable biometric verification and electronic signature services across national systems and applications that require digital identity checks.

The integration platform connects with the Ministry of Interior’s Civil Status Sector, forming the initial foundation for an integrated digital identity system in Egypt. The framework is intended to support the future expansion of electronic and biometric verification across digital services while improving the efficiency and security of transactions provided to citizens.

NTRA said the system was built with a secure verification architecture designed to protect users’ personal data and privacy while simplifying remote access to services.
