Arab Finance: Egypt is seeking to accelerate mining investments by offering incentives and streamlining procedures to move projects from exploration and licensing to production, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said.
Speaking at the Egypt Mining Forum 2026, Madbouly affirmed that the government is focusing on unlocking Egypt’s geological potential and linking mineral resources to markets, industry, energy, and infrastructure
During the roundtable, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi said the government intends to move beyond raw mineral extraction toward processing and manufacturing to maximize value addition.
Badawi also highlighted the potential for Egypt to become a regional hub for processing and manufacturing minerals sourced from other African countries.
Talks also addressed the energy sector, addressing investors' electricity demands and the arrangements needed to meet them. In this regard, Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat asserted that efforts are underway to meet mining projects’ electricity needs through solutions tailored to each project, including renewable energy and energy storage.
For his part, Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem highlighted promising opportunities to strengthen the partnership between the two sectors, citing several models that link raw mining materials with manufacturing industries.
During the meeting, investors called for faster government procedures for investment applications, tenders, licenses, and environmental approvals to accelerate the start of mining operations.
