El Dabaa NPP sees concrete pouring at 4th Power Unit

Arab Finance: The first concrete was poured into the foundation of the fourth power unit at the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), marking the initiation of the main stage of construction, as per a statement.

The Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division, serving as the General Designer and General Contractor, spearheads this significant development, positioning the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant as the largest nuclear construction project on the African continent.

The videoconference ceremony was attended by key figures, including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The on-site presence included the Prime Minister of Egypt Moustafa Madbouly, as well as Alexey Likhachev, the Director General of the Rosatom State Corporation, Mohamed Shaker, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt, Amged El-Wakeel, Board Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority, among other officials.

During the ceremony, the leaders of both countries granted permission for the laying of the first concrete onto the foundation stone of El-Dabaa NPP Power Unit 4.

“Introducing nuclear power into the energy mix that Egypt relies on to produce electricity is crucial to meeting the growing demands for electrical energy so as to fulfil the needs of economic and social development plans and contribute to boosting reliance on new and renewable energy, which achieves environmental sustainability and addresses climate change,” El-Sisi said.

Located in Matrouh governorate, four nuclear power reactors that generate 1,200 megawatts each will be built at the power plant by 2028.

The NPP is scheduled for operation and to reach full capacity by 2030.
