Finance Ministry, eTax launch project to digitize real estate tax system

Arab Finance: The Ministry of Finance has launched a project to develop and digitize the real estate tax system, finance minister Mohamed Maait stated.

This project has been introduced in cooperation with the tech-driven tax solutions company eTax, jointly owned by the ministry and e-finance, Maait added.

The initiative aims to make property tax services available online to citizens for the first time gradually, as part of the Ministry of Finance's strategy for optimal use of the digital transformation path across various sectors and affiliated entities, he highlighted.

The minister added that an advanced e-platform has already been launched to streamline services and raise awareness about the laws and procedures of real estate taxes.

Moreover, the ministry will also launch the services of inquiring about tax dues on units, paying the debt, reviewing the account electronically, he said.

In addition, online tax payment for registrants in high-density tax offices will be initiated after completing the review, auditing, and digitization of all data in the tax offices, as per Maait.

This will allow citizens to pay tax dues by creating an account on the unified real estate tax services platform, enabling taxpayers to issue a certified e-statement of tax payments for previous years, he explained.

Furthermore, Maait referred to the gradual launch of the unified e-declaration service for all types of built properties, including residential and non-residential units, over the upcoming period.

These units include administrative and commercial units, stores, offices, educational and service facilities, industrial and petroleum facilities, hotels, and others.

The unified real estate tax services platform allows taxpayers to apply for tax exemptions and submit appeals online gradually in the stages of project implementation.

On May 20th, eTax signed a contract with the Real Estate Taxation Authority (RTA) to implement the latter’s digitization framework.

Under the agreement, eTax will provide a suite of services, the most important of which will be conducting the technical operation, analyzing, designing, operating, developing, and maintaining the authority’s applications.
