Telecom Egypt, Medusa forge 2 commercial deals to enhance digital infrastructure

Aran Finance: Telecom Egypt has signed two commercial agreements with Medusa, an independent European company managed by AFR-IX Telecom and specialized in marine infrastructure systems in the Mediterranean, as per a statement.

The first agreement involves extending the Medusa submarine cable system to Aqaba, Jordan.

This extension will utilize terrestrial transit routes from Port Said on the Mediterranean coast to Taba on the Red Sea coast, and from there to Aqaba via the new Coral Bridge marine cable.

Both the Medusa and Coral Bridge cables are expected to be operational by the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2025.

The Medusa marine system, the largest submarine cable system in the Mediterranean, spans over 8,760 kilometers and connects several African and European countries, including Portugal, Morocco, Spain, France, Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Libya, and Egypt.

This system aims to strengthen digital infrastructure, stimulate economic development, and support innovations in e-commerce, distance learning, and e-health services.

The second agreement is a 10-year usufruct arrangement between Telecom Egypt and Medusa to provide local connectivity services from the landing station in Port Said to the main headquarters of Cairo University.

This will support academic research, distance education, and the exchange of scientific experiences across different cultures and environments.
