Egypt-Saudi Arabia electrical interconnection’s 1st phase to operate by July 2025

Arab Finance: The first phase of the electrical interconnection project between Egypt and Saudi Arabia is set to begin operation by July 2025, with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts, Egypt's Deputy Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Sabah Mashaly told Asharq Business.

This project aims to enhance electricity export prospects to Asia and Europe, improve connectivity with neighboring countries, and help mitigate Egypt's ongoing electricity crisis.

The project involves the construction of three high-voltage transformer stations two in Saudi Arabia, located east of Medina and Tabuk, and one in Egypt, located in Badr, east of Cairo.

These stations will be connected by 1,350 kilometers of overhead transmission lines and 22 kilometers of marine cables in the Gulf of Aqaba.
