Egypt's wheat imports surge 34% in H1 2024

Arab Finance: Egypt has witnessed a historic climb in wheat imports during the first six and a half months of this year, with a 34% year-on-year (YoY) increase, according to data seen by Al Arabiya Business.

Egypt imported 7.5 million tons of wheat from the beginning of the year until July 15th, up from 5.6 million tons in the same period last year. 

Egypt received a total of 3.551 million tons of local wheat from farmers this season, surpassing the target for this year.

In March, the Egyptian government raised the wheat procurement price for the 2024/2025 harvest season to EGP 2,000 per ardeb.
