Madbouly reviews medicine availability in market with EDA's head

Arab Finance: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with the Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) Ali Ghamrawy to review a report on the availability of medicines in the Egyptian market, as per a statement.

Madbouly highlighted that this meeting was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to monitor and improve the availability of medicines.

He noted the government's recent initiatives, including facilitating customs release for both medicines and raw materials needed for pharmaceutical production, which have helped address market demands.

For his part, Ghamrawy confirmed that the EDA is actively working to increase medicine availability and is making progress in supplying the remaining types of medicines, which are expected to be available in the coming weeks.

He also discussed the authority's cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and its efforts in mechanization and digital transformation to align with global technological advancements.

In August, Egypt announced it allocated EGP 7 billion to ensure the rapid availability of essential medicines and medical supplies in hospitals and pharmacies.

Madbouly unveiled before a plan to adjust the prices of certain medicines in the market.

In June, the Egyptian government formed an advisory committee to review the prices of medicines every six months amid the current fluctuations in the Egyptian pound’s exchange rate against foreign currencies.
