El-Wazir inaugurates Heidelberg Materials Egypt’s waste heat recovery system

Arab Finance: Minister of Transport and Industry Kamel El-Wazir has inaugurated Heidelberg Materials Egypt’s waste heat recovery system at its Helwan Cement plant, which is worth $30 million in investments, as per a statement.

This system aims to harness wasted heat from production lines and reuse it for energy generation, rather than releasing it into the atmosphere, El-Wazir noted.

This will contribute to saving energy while also preserving the environment, which in turn helps maintain a healthy climate and positive returns for Egypt’s economy by reducing the annual consumption of natural gas.

The system is expected to generate 18 megawatts (MWs) of energy, which saves 40,000 tons a year of electrical energy, the minister stated.

It is worth mentioning that Heidelberg Materials Egypt’s total production capacity amounts to around 10 million tons of cement annually.
