Arab Finance: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib held extensive meetings with representatives of British renewable energy companies as part of his visit to London, encouraging these companies to expand their investments in Egypt, as per a statement.

During a meeting with the representatives of Globeleq, one of the largest renewable energy investors in Africa, El-Khatib emphasized Egypt’s commitment to facilitating investment and transforming the country into a regional hub for renewable energy.

The talks explored new investment opportunities, including the expansion of Globeleq’s solar energy project in Benban and its plans to produce green hydrogen in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).

Globeleq is also interested in wind energy projects, desalination plants powered by renewables, and smart transportation systems using clean energy in Egypt.

The meeting highlighted Globeleq’s long-standing presence in Egypt, dating back to 2003, with a shift towards renewable energy since 2014.

Globeleq’s expansion plans are supported by the British International Investment Corporation (BII), the UK's government investment arm.

In a separate meeting, El-Khatib met with Oge Diala, founder of PASH Global, another British renewable energy firm, to discuss the firm’s interest in manufacturing solar panels in Egypt, positioning the country as a key player in solar energy, particularly for upcoming green hydrogen projects.

PASH Global had previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth EGP 2 billion with the SCZone to support these efforts.
