El-Sisi reviews plans to enhance Egypt’s electricity sector, renewable energy projects

Arab Finance: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has discussed plans to develop Egypt's national electricity system in a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and several key officials, as per a statement.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, and Head of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority Ahmed El-Shazly.

During the meeting, they tackled the available financing mechanisms needed to enhance distribution networks and service quality, especially in Upper Egypt.

The meeting also focused on the government’s efforts in expanding electricity generation projects and developing renewable energy storage to ensure network stability and address high loads.

Moreover, El-Sisi was briefed on the progress of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, including its implementation timeline, engineering and technical advancements, and the training of human resources.

Discussions also covered the development of electrical infrastructure in new cities, including the establishment of transformer stations and the extension of power lines and high-voltage cables.

The progress of electrical interconnection projects with neighboring countries and national infrastructure preparations for these connections were also reviewed.

Strategies for collaborating with the private sector were presented, aiming to leverage its administrative, technical, and technological expertise to improve service quality and performance rates.

El-Sisi emphasized the need to continue efforts to upgrade electricity services across all governorates and to enhance the national grid's capacity to meet increasing consumption demands due to population growth and ongoing development programs.

He directed officials to constantly upgrade generation plants, transmission and distribution networks, and control centers while boosting the efficiency of new and renewable energy utilization to support comprehensive national development.
